The Witch-hunt of the 21st Century : But who'll Bell the Cat?

Seems like our country's judicial system, after all, isn't going to the dogs! In what can be construed as a turning point in our Country, the Life Imprisonment handed out to a political big-wig like Shibu Soren as retribution for all his deeds, or misdeeds rather, is a welcome sign.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha ( JMM ) Supremo is finally in the docks, nearly 12 years after being charged with the Murder of his private secretary, Shashi Nath Jha. The CBI investigation pinned him down for this gruesome act, but mind you, Shibu Soren is no stranger to these things.
Controversies have tailed him like his shadow ever since he entered the Political Scene. The tribal leader was charged with the killing of 68 people, including 10 Muslims, and inciting mobs, in a bid to drive away people whom he perceived to be 'Outsiders' in the Muslim dominated Chirudih village in 1975. The leader has been as slippery as a fish on this front, he has avoided conviction in this case so far by using his Political Clout, the arrest warrants have been just a formality. An arrest warrant was issued against him in 2004 in the 30 year old case when he was the Coal Minister in the Manmohan Singh's Union Cabinet. The leader went into hibernation to avoid arrest, but later, on the Prime Minister's request, he finally resigned from the his position in the Ministry. The Warrant served no purpose, as Soren managed to secure a bail ( The Law is after all applicable only to the Hoi Polloi ).
What's more, he even managed to get re-inducted into the Cabinet in the November of the Same year.
Mr. Shashi Nath Jha, who served as Secretasry to Mr. Soren, was reportedly killed as he knew about the the Bribe Payment to 4 JMM MP's. He was abducted from New Delhi and was taken to Ranchi, where he was killed. After frantic calls from family members, an investigation was finally started by the Delhi Police, which was as conclusive as a Weather Forecast!
The Case finally landed up with the CBI and reached a culmination on November 28, 2006, with an Additional Sessions Court in New Delhi convcted Shibu Soren and four others for their part in the abduction and killing of Mr. Jha. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs.5 lakh on the Accused.
The recent high profile cases, be it Priyadarshini Mattoo case or the 1993 Bombay Serial Blasts Case, have seen the conviction of the the Culprits ( The flip side is : Sanju baba was let off on goodwill generated from his recent movies, I think, which is bad! ). The Judgment Day has finally dawned, or atleast there are some indications of it.
I await with bated breath, like many others, to see how the events unfold. It's time they got a taste of the Penal system here. But the question, as always, is, Who'll give them a taste of it?
Thanks for reading, please post your comments. Good day to you.

Unfortunate though it may seem, I wonder whether Soren will ACTUALLY spend ANY time in jail....there is still the whole point of appealing to the high court, then the supreme court and all that I suspect will take about 10-25 years, in which time Soren will very happily get himself a bail and live in his luxurious house.....
Though this is a step towards SOME kind of development....but for a drastic change to take place we will have to wait for the political power of the country to change hands to more sensible people...not people like Soren!!!

PS: Nice Title! Witch or Son-Of-A-bitch hunt????? :P
Thank you for responding my dear friend.
Yes, I completely agree with you, it's time the power passed into the hands of sensible people.
Thank you for responding my dear friend.
Yes, I completely agree with you, it's time the power passed into the hands of sensible people, but sensible people don't get entangled in this dirty business called 'POLITICS'. Soren has been nothing but a blight on the current Government, but he isn't the only black spot.
Well, the legal Machinery has to well oiled, it's creaking and groaning now! The country is churning out only IT/BPO recruits, where are the lawmakers in our country? This trend isn't auguring well for the future of our country...
Good day to you, bye.
I guess we still have to work at a lot of things....but at least we are getting better at a lot of stuff and thats what counts...look at our neighbors!!!! One is throwing over its ruler(Nepal), the other has several serious problem in its state(Bangladesh) and dont talk about Pakistan...atleast we are faring much better then them...just the matter of cleaning up a little mess!.....But the future for India looks bright indeed!
No, our neighbours shouldn't be a benchmark, we should always try to improve our own records, which we are not doing.
Our country was way ahead of China till the late 80's, but look who's ahead by a miles now! And incidentally, China too happens to be our neighbours.
Anyways, thankyou for your valuable feedback!
Yes anna, I saw that.
I don't know what the problem is. I tried everything and have done all things perfectly, but the problem persists.
Thanks, bye.
First of all, i would like to congragulate my good friend Sanketh for his debut blog....
Now as far as the former "honourable" union minister is concerned, he ought to have got the death penalty....
I think this isnt the last of Soren vis-a-vis convictions...
he still has many more cases against him...... hopefully he'll be hnaged for one of those.....
Absolutely my dear friend.
He still has case of disproportionate assets and the 1975 Killings of Muslims in Chirudih village against him.
Yes, Capital punishment would send the message loud and clear to other unscrupulous people in politics.
Thankyou for responding my dear friend, good day to you!
Regards.
No! I am against Capital Punishment for people like Soren, Its simply a waste of man-power, even though they deserve it!
Instead they should be sent to Concentration Camps kind of places where they are made to work their asses of and be held at gun point there!!! Make sure they dont do anything corrupt, THAT is what they deserve, atleast that way they will have to pay back for all the crimes that they have done!!!
Capital Punishment is going easy on them!
Prasad
Yes Prasad, good point. But the thing is, even petty politicians are known to lead a life of Comfort and Luxury in Tihar Jail!!
Such things won't work here till Corruption is weeded out from the System. But yes, it's a very bright idea. But people like Soren will feign sickness and get admitted to AIIMS rather than bend their backs. They are seasoned liars!
Thanks for respomding and keep them coming. Bye!
Hi sank, i went through your grittily crafted essay and i should say i more than agree with you. The judicial system is more like a politician's personal convinience wherein they can change the verdict with uncanny ease and in quick time. For example take Sidhu... he was sentenced for 10yrs but now it has been cut down to 3yrs !! This just adds to the agony of the victims and their families.... nobody thinks about them whilst giving a judgement. So i would suggest a LOT more of power, liberty to our judicial system ; After all no one is above the law [or at least no one should be].
Hello Adi,
First of all, I'd like to congratulate you for your very well crafted Comments, words surely flow easily for you.
Your views are in the same wavelength as mine, yes, the Siddhu case surely needs some rethought and careful consideration. But things are on course for a recovery I think, the Jessica Lal murder case conviction is surely sending shockwaves through the Political ranks.
But the nonchalance with which the guilty are let off with hardly a commensurate Retribution for their deeds is worrying. I await the outcome of Afzal Guru case ( Parliament bombing and killing of Security personnel on duty during that ill fated day : December 13, 2001), it'd be a good indicator of the State of the affairs. Afzal for one, surely deserves the noose tightening around his neck!
But this terrorist was supposed to be hanged on October 20; ahoy, look what the date is today : December 20.
But I have immense faith in our president, Justice is due to all those martyrs who laid down their lives, fighting for the very same 'PIG OF A PEOPLE' who don't even stop to do the only thing they're good at : Paying Lip service!
Good day to you, bye.
